Festival du voyageur

Festival du voyageur

You’re invited to “The World’s Largest Kitchen Party.” Come celebrate the French-Canadian voyageur and the fur-trading era.

Just like a voyageur (it literally means “traveler” in French) from the 1800s, you set foot in Fort Gibraltar, a historic reconstruction of a fur-trading post. Here, voyageurs would rendezvous to feast, drink, sing, dance and recharge after months in the wilds. See furs being prepared for shipment, watch a blacksmith at work—or take a walk along the firing platform on the look out for invaders crossing the Red River. If you’re thirsty sample Caribou, a hearty red wine fortified with whiskey.

Refreshed, you’re ready for some toe tapping. What better place than the Fiddling & Jigging competition? Next, check out the contestants in the Beard Growing contest—may the scruffiest man win!

Marvel at the amazingly detailed, voyageur-inspired creations sculpted from snow. Mingle with the guests at the Governor’s Ball, a gala straight out of 1820, complete with a five-course feast, dancing, 19th-century attire and uniformed guards.
